Urban animals, as a part of the urban ecological system, are attached to the city and human beings. In cities, all forms of “them” are in the pattern of human needs. Pet traders breed various animals and sell them to people who need pets. Every kind of animal must learn to eat and excrete regularly. Some animals’ hair will become a favorite style. Most of them stay in cages for long periods of time. Animals that appear as “food” do not need freedom. They live, grow and for die for mankind. Their only task is to form more protein.
Human beings, as top controller of the city’s food chain, take photos with “it”. There are pet traders’ expectation, pet owners’ satisfaction and food sellers’ joy in these photos’ expressions. In fact, human society obscures or conceals human animality, so we tend to forget. But man’s animality is everywhere in society. People will enslave the same kind of people as they enslave animals, and will also plunder other people as they plunder animals.
Human beings take pictures with “them” repeatedly and the pictures appear those asymmetrical and even slightly disharmonious states repeatedly. Magnifying such properties constantly allows us to begin to reflect on our behavior from the state of being accustomed to it.
