Baldwin Gallery in Aspen, Colorado, is currently hosting its fourth exhibition by New York-based artist Marilyn Minter. Minter’s new work continues her exploration of womanhood and glamour, particularly the interplay between implicit and explicit eroticisms. The imagery uses cultural cues and fetishes to ignite prefabricated sensual narratives. When viewing the photographs, “all of our intimate psychological whispers are suddenly disconcertingly overscaled,” writes the gallery in the press release. Close-ups of bright lipstick, jewels, parted lips and teeth translate as highly charged, erotic matter.
Minter (born 1948) has had numerous exhibitions at major museums in the U.S. and Europe. In collaboration with Creative Time, her work has been installed on billboards in Los Angeles and New York City.
